For my Book Design Technology class, we were given the task to design a dust jacket for a book of our choice. I chose one of my favorite books, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.

With this design I aimed for simple and striking. I wanted the main focus to be the flower on the cover of a calla lily. The name for calla lily stems from a Greek word meaning beauty, but in some cultures it is associated with death, which I think encompasses the darker themes of the novel. The entire novel is written through letters so I chose a handwritten brush-style font for the main text elements of the cover to make it feel more personal. The dimensions of the book are 5.625” by 8.5.”
